Northshore Apparel GH Ltd., a regenerative and zero-waste apparel manufacturer in Savelugu, has achieved certification from Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP). This certification confirms the company's adherence to global standards for ethical and socially responsible manufacturing.
An independent audit of Northshore Apparel’s production operations in the Northern Region led to the certification. This confirms compliance with international labour, safety, and environmental standards for the apparel, footwear, and sewn-products sectors. The recognition will make the company more attractive to international brands, sourcing firms, and development partners.
This achievement aligns with Ghana's broader economic strategy, particularly the government's 24-Hour Economy agenda. The certification supports industrial growth, job creation, and export expansion. It reinforces government efforts to promote manufacturing and increase export earnings across the country, especially in regions like Northern Ghana.
Mohammed Nurideen, Chief Executive Officer of Northshore Apparel, called the certification a significant milestone. He stated, “This certification is independent confirmation of what our people deliver every day. It tells the world that garments made in Savelugu are produced responsibly, ethically and to globally competitive standards.” This independent verification highlights the quality and ethical practices within Ghana's manufacturing sector.
The company has the potential to employ up to 10,000 workers. Northshore Apparel aims to become a major source of employment in northern Ghana. It will focus on young people, women, and persons with disabilities, including members of the deaf community. This directly supports social inclusion and economic empowerment.
The WRAP certification is crucial for expanding exports and attracting new partnerships. It helps strengthen responsible supply chains in the global apparel industry. This recognition demonstrates northern Ghana's growing capacity to host globally competitive, export-oriented industries.
With appropriate policy support and market partnerships, Northshore Apparel could significantly contribute to round-the-clock production. This would boost export earnings and broader economic activity. The company’s success could also encourage more investment in manufacturing in the region. This would strengthen Ghana's position in the global supply chain, creating more opportunities for local businesses and workers.
