Kibi School for the Deaf receives GHS 100,000 philanthropic boost

Businessman and philanthropist King Kojo Mohammed, Chief Executive Officer of Tako God's Resource Limited, has donated approximately GHS 100,000 to the Kibi School for the Deaf. This significant contribution includes cash, food items, and renovated facilities for the Eastern Region institution.

The donation directly addresses critical infrastructural and logistical challenges faced by the school. These issues include periodic food shortages and deteriorating sanitation facilities. The intervention aims to improve the living and learning conditions for the school's 182 hearing-impaired students.

Special needs education in Ghana often struggles with inadequate funding and resources from state budgets. Philanthropic interventions like this fill crucial gaps. These donations alleviate immediate pressures on schools and support the continued education of vulnerable children.

A representative of Tako God’s Resource Limited, Nana Adu Danso Gershon, stated the donation is part of the company’s social responsibility. He emphasized the importance of corporate support for vulnerable groups. Education is a powerful tool for transforming lives, especially for children with special needs.

This support will help the Kibi School for the Deaf, established in 1975, to maintain its educational standards. The school consistently achieves an average pass rate of 65 percent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). However, it still needs improved facilities like proper urinals and modern teaching equipment.

The Headteacher, Emmanuel Abiw, expressed deep gratitude for the donation. He noted the support would significantly ease some burdens. The food items will sustain the feeding programme, improved sanitation will benefit students, and financial support will address urgent operational needs.

Mr. Abiw appealed for more assistance from government agencies, corporate organizations, and individuals. He highlighted the ongoing need for resources to provide a conducive learning environment. Continued support is essential for the school's growth and the development of its students.

The Kibi School for the Deaf provides both academic and vocational training. This equips students with essential skills for independent living. The school battles several pressing challenges that threaten its long-term growth.

These challenges include a lack of adequate accommodation for teachers. The absence of a modern signpost also hinders the school's visibility. Insufficient teaching and learning equipment, such as projectors, further complicates instruction.

Additionally, the school lacks a functional printer for examination materials. Such deficiencies impact the quality of education and administrative efficiency. Broader support is crucial for the school to overcome these persistent obstacles.

The donation by King Kojo Mohammed serves as a model for corporate engagement. It demonstrates how private sector backing can directly enhance public service delivery. This act of philanthropy ensures continued access to education for Ghana's hearing-impaired youth.
