HealthTech Ghana Limited has been named the Innovative Medical Technology Distribution Company of the Year at the 9th Ghana West Africa Business Excellence Awards (WABEA) 2026. The company received this honour at a ceremony held on June 6 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.
This recognition comes as HealthTech Ghana advances a significant public-private partnership with the Ministry of Defence. This collaboration aims to restore and expand diagnostic services at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. The project will introduce Ghana’s first Philips BlueSeal 1.5 Tesla helium-free MRI system.
This development is crucial for Ghana’s healthcare sector. It addresses long-standing challenges in diagnostic infrastructure and access. The partnership aligns with broader national efforts to attract private investment into critical public services. Such initiatives enhance Ghana's appeal for foreign direct investment in essential sectors.
Daniel Morkla, Chief Executive Officer of HealthTech Ghana Limited, spoke about the award. He described the recognition as an endorsement of the company’s vision. This vision focuses on improving access to quality healthcare infrastructure in Ghana. Mr. Morkla emphasized the importance of smart, sustainable partnerships for delivering world-class diagnostic services.
The expansion at 37 Military Hospital will significantly enhance diagnostic capabilities. It includes comprehensive CT scanning, digital X-ray, mammography, and ultrasound services. Additionally, advanced laboratory testing covering haematology, biochemistry, and pathology will be available. These upgrades directly address the critical need for modern medical equipment and services across the country.
Mr. Morkla’s decision to return to Ghana after more than two decades in the global medical technology industry highlights his commitment. He believes in making a meaningful impact on healthcare delivery in his home country. The award validates his company's model of combining private-sector investment, backed by Prudential Bank Ghana, with public institutional infrastructure. This approach demonstrates a credible and impactful strategy for national development.
HealthTech Ghana’s project at the 37 Military Hospital is the first phase of a broader national strategy. This strategy focuses on establishing public-private partnership diagnostic and dialysis centers nationwide. The long-term objective is to make advanced medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics, and dialysis treatment more accessible to all Ghanaians. This plan aims to overcome limitations linked to location or income level.
This private sector engagement signifies increasing confidence in Ghana's economic environment. It suggests a growing trend of partnerships to bridge infrastructure gaps. Observers will closely watch the success of this model for its potential replication in other public service areas. This could lead to further economic and social development across Ghana.
