Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has officially inaugurated the Board of Directors for its new subsidiary, G-Water Bottling Limited. This new board is tasked with transforming G-Water into one of Ghana's most recognized and commercially successful bottled water brands.
This inauguration is a key part of GWL's wider plan to diversify its revenue sources and strengthen its business operations. The company aims to create lasting value by investing in areas beyond its primary task of producing and distributing water. G-Water Bottling Limited was created to make, package, and sell safe, high-quality drinking water using sound business principles.
This initiative fits into Ghana's ongoing push for state-owned enterprises to become more commercially viable and less reliant on government support. Many public companies are exploring new income streams to improve their financial health and contribute more significantly to the national economy. This strategy mirrors efforts across various sectors to boost local industries and create employment opportunities, aligning with broader national development goals.
Mr. Eric J. Biliguo Adama, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Ghana Water Limited, spoke at the Accra ceremony. He described the bottled water company as a crucial part of GWL's long-term growth agenda. Mr. Adama noted that G-Water already has public acceptance due to its quality. However, its commercial potential has not been fully met because of limited market reach. “G-Water Bottling Limited represents an important pillar in the Company's long-term growth strategy,” Mr. Adama stated. He also highlighted significant opportunities for expansion within Ghana’s highly competitive bottled water market.
The establishment of G-Water Bottling Limited aims to generate additional revenue for GWL and create new job opportunities. It will also work to strengthen the Ghana Water brand itself. This venture is expected to leverage GWL's existing expertise in water production and quality assurance, allowing it to compete more effectively in the bottled water industry. Success in this new market could serve as a model for other state enterprises considering commercial diversification.
The newly appointed board is chaired by Mr. Agbesi Nutsu. Dr. Hadisu Alhasan serves as Executive Director. Mr. Sulemana Alhassan Alancash and Mr. Joseph Zefo Kero are Non-Executive Directors. Madam Innocentia Kuupiel holds the position of Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Nutsu has pledged that the board will provide strong leadership and effective oversight to ensure the company's growth, stability, and enduring success.
