Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) recently organized a public float in Kumasi to rally support for the Black Stars' 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign. The bank, which is the official banking partner and sole corporate sponsor of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), conducted this event to generate national enthusiasm.

This initiative follows a successful float in Accra, indicating UMB's sustained efforts. The bank mobilised football fans and the general public in Kumasi to show strong support for the national team. UMB stated its dedication to developing Ghanaian football and ensuring the Black Stars' success on the international stage.

As a Ghanaian-owned financial institution established in 1972, UMB’s partnership with the GFA highlights its commitment to national development. This aligns with broader corporate social responsibility trends in Ghana, where local businesses invest in popular sectors like sports. Such sponsorships often serve dual purposes, fostering national pride while enhancing brand visibility and customer engagement.

Victor Opoku Brijuu, UMB's Divisional Head for branches outside Accra, spoke during the float. He explained that the initiative aimed to unite Ghanaians behind the team. Mr. Brijuu also highlighted the event as a way to promote the bank's wide range of financial products and services. He emphasized UMB's role as the principal financial sponsor for the Black Stars through its GFA partnership.

UMB's strategy connects its support for the Black Stars with its customer relationships. Mr. Brijuu stated, “Just as we are partnering with the Black Stars to bring victory to Ghana, we are partnering with Ghanaians to bring success to their businesses and lifestyles.” This approach seeks to build trust and encourage account activations, offering various benefits to customers.

Yaw Asante Offin, the Zonal Manager for the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions, also addressed participants. He showcased the bank's extensive financial solutions available to the public. Mr. Offin invited everyone to bank with UMB, mentioning savings accounts, credit facilities, investment opportunities, and LegacyCare products. These offerings aim to meet diverse customer needs.

The Kumasi float toured prominent streets, including Nhyiaeso, Adum, Bantama, Ashtown, and Asafo. It concluded at the Kumasi City Mall, reaching a wide audience. This event is part of UMB's nationwide campaign to boost support for the Black Stars. It also strengthens the bank's engagement with communities across Ghana.

UMB continues to position itself as a key supporter of Ghanaian football through its GFA partnership. This strategy champions national unity and inspires confidence among citizens. The bank aims to leverage this support as the Black Stars pursue success in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This ongoing commitment by UMB underscores the financial sector's role in national endeavors.
