The Ghana Cocoa Board has paid GHS 2.3 billion ($204.44 million) to bondholders affected by the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, completing its mandatory 2026 DDEP settlements, COCOBOD said on 1 September 2026.
The latest disbursement of GHS 2,306,202,372.09 follows a March coupon of GHS 376.3 million, lifting total 2026 payments to DDEP holders to GHS 2.683 billion. In July, the Board also paid GHS 162 million to Cocoa Bill holders who did not join the DDEP, closing that outstanding line.
According to a Reuters report carried by CNBC Africa, further DDEP-related payments remain scheduled over the next two years. The 2023 restructuring swapped local securities, including COCOBOD bills used to finance bean purchases, into longer-maturity instruments and effectively shut COCOBOD out of the syndicated loan market it had relied on for more than three decades.
COCOBOD said the settlements were made under Ministry of Finance guidance as part of efforts to strengthen the financial sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
