The Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce (CanCham) will host a key event to mobilise capital for cross-border business expansion. This gathering brings together chief executives, financiers, policymakers, and investors. The goal is to discuss strategies for accessing crucial funding.

The event, named CEOs’ Connect 2026, focuses on “Financing the Future: Capital Strategies for Cross-Border Business Expansion.” It aims to help Ghanaian and Canadian companies secure capital for growth beyond their home markets. This initiative is particularly important as Ghana works to reset its economy and boost investor confidence.

This year’s CEOs’ Connect coincides with CanCham’s 10th anniversary, marking a decade of promoting economic ties. It also aligns with Ghana’s broader economic recovery efforts, including the 24-Hour Economy programme. The discussions will explore how businesses can tap into domestic capital markets and attract foreign direct investment. This is vital for Ghana's economic stability and growth.

Mrs. Edwina Atta-Sonno, the Chief Executive Officer of CanCham, highlighted the ambition of Ghanaian businesses. She noted that these businesses often struggle to access suitable capital with appropriate terms. The CEOs’ Connect 2026 seeks to bridge this gap by connecting capital providers with businesses needing financing. This approach promotes practical economic diplomacy through strategic partnerships.

A high-level panel discussion forms the centerpiece of the programme. Esteemed leaders from across the capital and market-access value chain will participate. Panelists include Mrs. Abena Amoah, Managing Director and CEO of the Ghana Stock Exchange. Mr. Simon Madjie, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, will also join. Dr. Mary Awusi, CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, is another key participant. Ms. Cynthia E. Gnassingbe-Essonam from the AfCFTA Secretariat will offer insights. Mr. Calleb Osei, Country Chief Financial Officer of Guaranty Trust Bank Ghana, completes the panel.

Discussions will cover various financing avenues. These include domestic capital markets, foreign direct investment, and commercial bank financing. The event will also examine export-oriented manufacturing and continental market access. These topics are crucial for businesses looking to expand their reach and increase their competitiveness.

Special remarks will be delivered by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah, as the Distinguished Guest of Honour. Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, will participate as a Special Guest. Ms. Myriam Montrat, the Canadian High Commissioner in Accra, will also attend. Their presence underscores the importance of this event for both public and private sectors.

The programme includes dedicated business-to-business networking sessions. These sessions will allow participating companies to explore potential partnerships and investment opportunities. They will also facilitate trade collaborations between Ghanaian and Canadian firms. This direct engagement is expected to foster concrete business outcomes.

Key areas of focus for investment and partnership include high-growth sectors. These sectors are energy, agribusiness, technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, and financial technology. The event will also delve into access to structured and blended finance. Private equity and joint ventures will also be discussed. Furthermore, the policy and regulatory environment for foreign direct investment will be a significant topic. This comprehensive approach aims to address all facets of cross-border expansion.
