ADB Boosts Ghana Trade with Kumasi Business Seminar

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC confirmed its dedication to helping Ghanaian businesses compete internationally. It hosted a trade seminar in Kumasi on July 9, 2026. The event focused on financing, risk management, and cross-border trade opportunities.

The seminar gathered importers, exporters, manufacturers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), agribusiness operators, and corporate clients. Discussions covered practical methods to expand international trade and manage risks. Participants also learned how to access necessary financing for global operations. This initiative aims to strengthen Ghana's export capabilities and drive economic growth.

This commitment comes as Ghana seeks to diversify its economy and increase non-traditional exports. The government's 'One District One Factory' initiative also encourages local production for both domestic and international markets. Supporting trade finance aligns with national goals to create jobs and earn foreign exchange. Data from the Bank of Ghana indicates a continued focus on improving the balance of payments through increased exports.

Edward Ato Sarpong, the Managing Director of ADB PLC, stated the bank positions itself as the preferred financial partner for businesses expanding beyond Ghana. He said, “Trade remains one of the strongest drivers of economic transformation. At ADB, we are committed to equipping Ghanaian businesses with the financial solutions, advisory support, and global banking partnerships they need to compete confidently in international markets.” This highlights the bank's strategic role in national development.

ADB will continue to invest in innovative trade finance solutions. These solutions simplify cross-border transactions for businesses in agriculture, manufacturing, commerce, and industry. General Manager for Retail Banking, Frank Okyere-Adarkwa, emphasized the growing importance of trade finance for all business sizes. He explained that ADB offers tailored financial solutions for growing SMEs importing machinery, agribusinesses exporting produce, or established corporations trading internationally.

The seminar also forms part of ADB’s strategy to bring banking closer to business communities. Head of Trade Finance, Risikatu Sanda, urged businesses to improve their understanding of international trade processes. She also encouraged greater use of banking instruments to reduce trade risks. Collaborating with ADB’s trade specialists can help structure transactions to minimize risks and maximize opportunities.

Felix Segu Eshun, the Ashanti Area Manager, welcomed participants. He highlighted Kumasi’s role as a major commercial center with strong potential for regional and international expansion. The region's businesses are well-positioned to access international markets, supported by ADB's financial and advisory services. This local focus ensures that a broad range of businesses can benefit from the bank's expertise.

Presentations at the event covered various topics. These included trade finance products, foreign exchange solutions, letters of credit, and guarantees. Import and export financing, documentary collections, and strategies for navigating global trade challenges were also discussed. Participants actively interacted with ADB’s specialists to address their specific financing needs and operational hurdles. This direct engagement fosters a better understanding of available services and strengthens business relationships.

This event is part of a larger plan by ADB. The bank aims to deepen customer engagement and strengthen Ghana’s import and export ecosystem. It also seeks to promote entrepreneurship and support businesses that contribute significantly to national economic growth. These efforts are crucial for Ghana's long-term prosperity and global competitiveness.
