Access Bank Ghana Boosts Growth with GHS 1 Billion Cocoa Support

    Access Bank Ghana has reinforced its expansion plans during a series of key meetings in Kumasi. The bank announced a significant commitment to the agricultural sector. It has pledged GHS 1 billion to support cocoa purchases and related value chain activities. This initiative is being carried out in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

    The bank's Managing Director, Ms. Pearl Nkrumah, led a five-day delegation to Kumasi between May 11 and May 15, 2026. This visit was part of Access Bank's strategy to Grow, Transform, and Protect its business. These efforts aim to adapt to Ghana's changing financial landscape. Competition from fintech companies and mobile money services is increasing. These digital services process annual transactions valued at over GHS 3 trillion.

    Access Bank Ghana reported strong results for 2025. Total assets grew to GHS 19 billion. The bank's loan book expanded by 36.7 per cent, reaching GHS 5.06 billion. Customer deposits also saw substantial growth, totaling GHS 14.54 billion.

    During the Kumasi visit, Ms. Nkrumah paid respects to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace. The bank's Board Chairperson, Ama Sarpong Bawuah, highlighted Ms. Nkrumah's historic appointment as the first Ghanaian and first female to lead the bank. The delegation also met with leaders at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Discussions there focused on innovation and developing entrepreneurs. They explored ways to collaborate with the university community.

    A working lunch brought together members of the Kumasi business community. Access Bank Ghana showcased its special programs. These include the ‘W’ Initiative, which provides finance and mentorship to women entrepreneurs. The bank also highlighted its SME Clinics, which operate in Kumasi. These programs are designed to make it easier for small and medium-sized businesses to get loans. These loans are crucial for their growth and stability.

    Access Bank Ghana also detailed its BRIDGE in Agric Programme. This program works with the Mastercard Foundation. It offers agribusinesses loans with interest rates in the single digits. The bank also has an export desk. This desk helps Ghanaian businesses sell their products in international markets. This support is vital for boosting Ghana's export earnings.

    The bank concluded its engagements with a media gathering in Kumasi. Access Bank Ghana announced a donation of GHS 50,000. This money will help fund the Ashanti Regional Press Centre Project. Ms. Nkrumah stated this donation shows the bank's commitment to community relations. They want to support a strong and informed media environment.

    These engagements demonstrate Access Bank Ghana's dedication to expanding its reach. They aim to support Ghana's overall development goals. This includes targeted financial aid and social projects across the country.
