The Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE), Fuseini Gbene Abudu, has distributed 1,500 bags of fertiliser to farmers and community leaders. This distribution is part of the government’s Feed Ghana fertiliser programme, designed to support agricultural productivity.

The fertiliser was presented on behalf of Mr. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, the Member of Parliament for Sissala West. Beneficiaries included Assembly Members, traditional chiefs, landlords, and opinion leaders across the district. Mr. Navei Shaibu, the Presiding Member of the Sissala West District Assembly, officially received the fertiliser for the beneficiaries.

This initiative aligns with Ghana's broader strategy to bolster its agricultural sector and ensure food security. Government programmes like Feed Ghana are crucial for providing essential inputs to farmers, especially smallholders. Such interventions aim to reduce production costs and increase crop yields, directly impacting rural livelihoods and national food supply.

Mr. Abudu explained that the fertiliser had been received earlier but faced logistical and time constraints for distribution. He stated that the distribution aims to ensure the government’s intervention reaches all intended beneficiaries. The DCE also pledged to cover the full cost of transporting the fertiliser to the various recipients.

Each Paramount Chief in the district received ten bags of fertiliser, while sub-chiefs received three bags each. Assembly Members were allocated five bags each. Landlords in the district each received two bags, and opinion leaders in all communities received one bag. Some fertiliser was also provided to persons with disability, ensuring broad community reach.

Ghana’s agricultural sector contributes significantly to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employing a large portion of the workforce. Government support for agriculture, including fertiliser subsidies and distribution, is vital for economic stability. These programmes help mitigate the impact of rising input costs, which can otherwise deter farmers from planting.

The government's commitment to agricultural development is a consistent theme in national policy. Initiatives like 'Planting for Food and Jobs' have previously demonstrated the state's role in boosting farm output. The current distribution in Sissala West reinforces this ongoing dedication to agricultural growth and farmer welfare.

The distribution event was witnessed by key political figures, including Mr. Mahamod Faisall, the NDC Constituency Chairman, and Mr. Issah Sulemani, the Constituency Secretary. Other officials from the District Assembly also attended the presentation ceremony held in Gwollu.

This timely provision of fertiliser is expected to enable farmers to prepare for the upcoming planting season effectively. Improved access to inputs like fertiliser can lead to higher crop yields, which translates into better incomes for farmers. It also contributes to a more stable food supply for the entire nation.

The implications of such distributions are far-reaching, potentially improving food security and reducing reliance on imported produce. Stakeholders will closely watch the impact on crop yields and farmer incomes in the Sissala West District. Continued government support for input delivery remains critical for Ghana's agricultural future.
