Agritech company Complete Farmer is leveraging technology to empower Ghanaian farmers, enabling them to produce high-quality crops and connect with international markets. This innovation aims to eliminate the high costs associated with traditional farming practices, such as soil testing.
The Complete Farmer platform addresses key challenges in agriculture by integrating market access, remote farm monitoring, and data-driven planning. Its core objective is to link local growers directly with global buyers, ensuring a ready market for produce. This approach gives farmers confidence before starting a new farming season.
This development aligns with Ghana's broader economic goal of diversifying exports and enhancing agricultural productivity. Ghana's agricultural sector contributes significantly to its Gross Domestic Product and employs a large portion of the workforce. Improving market access and quality standards can boost export earnings and create more stable incomes for farmers, a crucial aspect of national development.
Gilbert Nii Tackie, Innovation Manager at Complete Farmer App, explained the company's objective. He stated, "Complete Farmer exists to help bridge the gap between our local markets and our local growers and the global buyers or people sourcing food globally." He emphasized the platform’s role in providing farmers with a guaranteed buyer for their harvest.
The platform’s impact is far-reaching. It provides farmers with structured farming guides designed to boost yields and meet international quality standards. This standardization is vital for Ghana to become a reliable supplier to international markets. The technology also allows farmers to monitor their farms remotely, receiving expert technical support from agronomists.
Farmers receive daily and weekly tasks upon onboarding, aimed at consistent quality production. These digital instructions are complemented by on-the-ground support from a network of agents and field agronomists. This blended approach ensures farmers have both digital guidance and human expertise.
Complete Farmer has established demonstration farms in its operational areas to validate its instructions and methods. This practical testing ensures that the advice provided leads to desired results for farmers. The platform also helps farmers identify potential issues like drought risk or pest infestation remotely, allowing for early intervention.
Mr. Tackie highlighted the transformative potential of technology in African agriculture. He identified standardisation and increased efficiency as key benefits. Different farming practices across Ghana often lead to inconsistent crop quality. This makes it difficult for international buyers to depend on Ghanaian producers. Complete Farmer directly addresses this inconsistency.
For new farmers, the platform eliminates the need for expensive soil testing by providing instant soil insights. Farmers can upload land information and receive data on NPK composition and organic matter. This allows them to make informed decisions about crop selection quickly and affordably. This planning before investment is designed to improve overall success rates.
The company is now focusing on increasing adoption of its platform through training sessions and stakeholder engagement. A webinar and workshop are scheduled for June 23, bringing together agronomists and businesses. These efforts aim to expand the reach and impact of Complete Farmer's technology across Ghana.
